Router crash via malformed routing-protocol TCP packets
Published Oct 18, 2022 · Updated May 12, 2025
Improper input validation in the Juniper Networks Junos OS Evolved kernel allows remote attackers to crash affected PTX routers. The kernel accepts syntactically malformed TCP packets addressed to BGP, LDP, or MSDP ports and panics while processing them; Juniper has not disclosed the faulty parser or validation step. Unauthenticated network reachability to one of those protocol ports on PTX10004, PTX10008, or PTX10016 hardware is required, and successful exploitation interrupts the router until it recovers from the kernel panic.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
