SYSTEM privilege escalation via unsafe MSI repair
Published Apr 14, 2022 · Updated Sep 16, 2024
Improper privilege management in Juniper Identity Management Service before 1.4.0 allows local users to gain SYSTEM privileges. A user-invoked repair makes the SYSTEM-context Windows Installer execute temporary files from the invoking user's %TEMP% directory. Any local authenticated user can replace those files with malicious binaries and execute code as SYSTEM without user interaction.
