Stored XSS via carriage-return scheme confusion
Published Jun 27, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in Ionică Bizău parse-url before 6.0.1 allows remote attackers to execute script via a crafted URL after user interaction. The parser accepts carriage-return characters inside a javascript scheme, misclassifies that scheme, and returns the attacker-controlled href for insertion into an HTML link. Exploitation requires a consuming web application to persist and render that href and a user to activate it, exposing browser-accessible data and actions.
