Local privilege escalation via win32k use-after-free
Published Jul 12, 2022 · Updated Jul 8, 2025
Use-after-free in win32kfull.sys in Microsoft Windows allows local users to elevate privileges through UMPD graphics callbacks. Multiple UMPDDrv drawing routines use graphics objects after their lifetime ends, allowing controlled kernel-memory reuse. A low-privileged local account is required, and successful exploitation grants elevated execution with full system impact.
