CVE-2022-22007

Code execution via crafted HEIC image rendering

Published Mar 9, 2022 · Updated Jul 8, 2025

Heap overflow in Windows Imaging Component for Microsoft HEVC Video Extensions before 1.0.50361.0 allows attackers to execute code. The component corrupts heap memory when it renders a crafted HEIC image, but public disclosures do not identify the faulty function or bounds operation. Execution requires a local application to render attacker-controlled image content and user interaction, and resulting code runs in the user's context.
