CVE-2022-21963

Remote code execution via crafted ReFS filesystem

Published Jan 11, 2022 · Updated Jan 2, 2025

Remote code execution in Microsoft Windows ReFS allows attackers to execute code via a crafted filesystem image. The vulnerable ReFS parser processes attacker-controlled filesystem metadata without sufficient validation, but Microsoft has not published the precise failing routine. Exploitation requires physically presenting the crafted ReFS media; successful exploitation can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
