Stored script execution via unescaped placeholder setting
Published Jul 17, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Stored XSS in BracketSpace Simple Post Notes before 1.7.6 allows remote authenticated users to execute script via the Notes placeholder. The settings page places the saved Notes placeholder value into a textarea without sanitizing or escaping it, allowing a closing textarea tag to inject script. Administrator privileges are required, but exploitation remains possible when WordPress denies the unfiltered_html capability and runs the script in a viewer's browser.
