Victim-context script execution via unsanitized pasted chat
Published Apr 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Rocket.Chat LiveChat before 1.9.0 allows remote attackers to execute script in a victim's browser via pasted chat content. The Composer passes pasted text onward unchanged, while renderMarkdown returns generated HTML without sanitizing it before message display. Exploitation requires a victim to paste attacker-supplied content into the chat; the script can read or modify data available to that browser context.
