CVE-2022-21814

Local service interruption via protected-memory write

Published Feb 7, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Improper privilege handling in NVIDIA GPU Display Driver for Linux allows local users to write protected memory and interrupt service. The kernel driver package does not correctly enforce permissions before granting limited write access to protected memory; NVIDIA has not disclosed a more specific code locus. An unprivileged local account is required, and the documented consequence is denial of service rather than confidentiality loss or broader code execution.
