CVE-2022-21812

Local privilege escalation via HAX device access control

Published Aug 18, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025

Improper access control in Intel Hardware Accelerated Execution Manager before 7.7.1 allows authenticated local users to escalate privileges. The HAX device interface fails to enforce the required access restrictions around privileged hypervisor operations for an authenticated local user. Reaching the condition requires local access to a host running HAXM; successful exploitation can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the host.
