Local privilege escalation via unchecked WLAN write
Published Jul 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in MediaTek WLAN drivers for Android 11.0 and 12.0 allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges. The WLAN driver fails to check bounds before writing input, allowing memory outside the intended buffer to be overwritten. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges and no user interaction; MediaTek has not disclosed the affected function or input path.
