Local privilege escalation via driver race
Published Jul 6, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Type confusion in MediaTek TEEI driver on Android 11.0 and 12.0 allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges. A race permits concurrent execution against shared driver state without proper synchronization, causing the state to be interpreted as the wrong type. Exploitation requires existing System execution privileges, needs no user interaction, and elevates code within the affected device.
