Heap corruption via unchecked sparse tensor indices
Published Feb 3, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
An out-of-bounds write in TensorFlow through 2.5.2, 2.6.0 through 2.6.2, and 2.7.0 allows attackers to corrupt heap memory. SparseCount::Compute accepts index coordinates outside the corresponding dense_shape bounds and uses them while producing SparseCountSparseOutput. Exploitation requires a deployment that passes attacker-controlled tensors to this operation; demonstrated negative indices can write outside the intended heap buffer.
