Process crash via overflowing UnravelIndex dimensions
Published Feb 3, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
Integer overflow in TensorFlow before 2.5.3, 2.6.0 through 2.6.2, and 2.7.0 allows remote authenticated users to crash a process. The UnravelIndex CPU kernel multiplies untrusted dimensions in the index type without an overflow check, allowing wrapped stride values to reach integer division. Reachability requires an application to pass attacker-controlled indices and dimensions to the operation; successful triggering interrupts that TensorFlow process without reported data disclosure or modification.
