Sensitive file disclosure via broad sandbox permissions
Published Jan 18, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Improper filesystem restrictions in OnionShare before 2.5 allow attackers to read sensitive files from the user's home folder. The Snap and Flatpak manifests grant the process read-only access across the home directory instead of limiting it to predefined application folders. Exploitation requires an existing filesystem-access primitive in the process context, while hidden folders remain excluded by default.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
