Restricted-group disclosure via visibility-blind advanced search
Published Jan 14, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Information disclosure in Discourse before 2.7.13 and 2.8.0.beta11 allows remote attackers to reveal restricted groups and members through search. The group advanced filter in lib/search.rb selected a group by name or ID without applying the visible_groups and members_visible_groups scopes. Anonymous access reaches groups restricted to logged-on users, while stricter settings expose group membership or posts when search access falls below configured visibility.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
