Unauthenticated device takeover via passwordless SMS commands
Published Jul 20, 2022 · Updated Apr 16, 2025
Improper authentication in MiCODUS MV720 all versions allows remote attackers to control GPS trackers through passwordless SMS commands. The tracker protocol accepts certain SMS-like commands forwarded by the API server without checking the device password, even after the default password changes. No account or user interaction is required; the adminip command can redirect the tracker to an attacker-controlled server, exposing its telemetry and controls.
