CVE-2022-21385

Local system crash via inconsistent RDS iovec copies

Published Aug 29, 2022 · Updated Sep 23, 2024

Denial of service in Oracle Linux UEK allows local users to crash the host by invoking the vulnerable RDS sendmsg path. net_rds_alloc_sgs() sizes scatter-gather entries from one copy of a user-controlled RDS iovec, while rds_cmsg_rdma_args() copies and walks it again; changed data can produce inconsistent counts and trigger WARN_ON. An unprivileged local process can reach the path, and the resulting kernel panic interrupts every workload on the host.
