Uncontrolled resource consumption in Oracle Java SE ImageIO 7u321, 8u311, 11.0.13, and 17.0.1 allows remote attackers to interrupt service. BMPImageReader uses attacker-controlled bitmap dimensions for an excessive image-buffer allocation during decoding. Exposure requires untrusted BMP input to reach ImageIO through sandboxed client code or an API such as a web service; the bounded consequence is process interruption from memory exhaustion.
