CVE-2022-21283Network attack vector

Service interruption via crafted regular expression matching

Published Jan 19, 2022 · Updated May 27, 2026

Denial of service in Oracle Java SE 11.0.13 and 17.0.1 allows remote attackers to interrupt applications via crafted regex input. The java.util.regex.Pattern implementation raises an unexpected exception while matching specially crafted input instead of completing safely. Exposure requires sandboxed untrusted Java code or an application, such as a web service, that passes attacker-controlled data to the affected API; the result is partial service interruption.
