CVE-2022-2127Network attack vector

Winbind crash via unchecked NTLM response length

Published Jul 20, 2023 · Updated Nov 20, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in Samba Winbind allows remote attackers to crash the service via a malformed NTLM authentication response. The winbindd_pam_auth_crap.c handler fails to bounds-check the variable-length LAN Manager response before reading it. Remote reachability requires ntlm_auth to back a service such as Squid or FreeRADIUS; otherwise, access to the privileged Winbind socket is required.
