CVE-2022-2120

Arbitrary file write via unsanitized DICOM identifiers

Published Jun 24, 2022 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Path traversal in OFFIS DCMTK before 3.6.7 allows remote attackers to write DICOM files outside configured directories. Affected tools use unchecked SOP, study, or patient identifiers from received DICOM data when generating filenames instead of removing path separators. Network access to an affected DICOM service is required; code execution depends on overwriting a file interpreted by another application.
