Prototype pollution via nested forbidden key paths
Published May 13, 2022 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Prototype pollution in Mozilla Convict before 6.2.3 allows attackers to modify object prototypes through crafted configuration keys. The set method checks only whether a dotted key starts with proto or this.constructor.prototype, then splits and writes it, so a benign prefix bypasses the denylist. Exploitation requires a consuming application to pass attacker-controlled keys; successful pollution can alter properties inherited by objects in that Node.js process.
