Remote code execution via unchecked SOP Instance UID
Published Jun 24, 2022 · Updated Nov 3, 2025
Path traversal in OFFIS DCMTK before 3.6.7 allows remote attackers to write DICOM files outside an SCP's working directory. Affected tools such as storescp derive output filenames from an unvalidated SOP Instance UID, so traversal sequences select attacker-chosen paths. Exploitation requires network access to a receiving SCP; code execution follows only when a crafted DICOM file reaches a location interpreted as executable content.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
