Host hang via atypical privileged MMIO reads
Published Jun 15, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025
Improper input validation in Intel Processors allows local users with MMIO privilege to hang affected hosts through atypical MMIO reads. Affected integrated devices fail to handle atypical reads to the documented MCHBAR, GTTMMADR, and TMBAR MMIO ranges, leaving the platform hung. Reachability requires MMIO privilege; in a virtualized environment, a guest can hang the host only when its VMM grants direct MMIO read access to a vulnerable integrated device.
