Reflected XSS via unescaped shortcode query parameter
Published Jul 25, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Reflected XSS in Essential Plugin Popup Anything before 2.1.7 allows remote attackers to execute script through a crafted page URL. On pages containing a [paoc_details display="key_xxx"] shortcode, the frontend returns the xxx query parameter without sanitization or output escaping. Exploitation requires the vulnerable shortcode on a published page and a visitor to follow a crafted URL; injected script then runs in that visitor's browser.
