CVE-2022-21147Public exploit

Malware scan termination via unchecked PE section count

Published May 12, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in ESTsoft ALYac 2.5.7.7 allows attackers to crash malware scanning by supplying a malformed PE file. The coen.aym function sub_180086C30 trusts the PE header's NumberOfSections value and iterates 40-byte section headers without checking the file length. The file must reach ALYac's PE scanner; a missing .text section lets the loop read beyond the file and terminate the scanning process.
