CVE-2022-21123

Local stale-data disclosure via oversized MMIO reads

Published Jun 15, 2022 · Updated May 5, 2025

Incomplete buffer cleanup in some Intel Processors allows local users to disclose stale data through oversized MMIO reads. A read wider than four bytes can return unrequested stale data from a shared transaction buffer directly into architectural state. Exploitation requires local authenticated code with MMIO access, including an untrusted guest granted MMIO, and can expose data handled by another core.
