Root command execution and restart via malformed HTTP
Published Jul 21, 2022 · Updated Nov 1, 2024
Buffer overflow in Cisco Small Business RV Series Router Firmware allows remote authenticated users to execute root commands or restart devices. The web-based management interface insufficiently validates user fields in crafted HTTP packets, allowing memory corruption during request processing. Valid Administrator credentials and LAN access are required unless remote management is enabled; exploitation yields root-level execution or a device restart.
