Unauthenticated device reload via malicious UDP datagrams
Published Sep 30, 2022 · Updated Nov 1, 2024
Improper UDP processing in Cisco IOS XE Software on Catalyst 9100 access points allows remote attackers to reload affected devices. The Embedded Wireless Controller mishandles malicious UDP datagrams when High Availability mode is enabled, triggering a device reload instead of safely rejecting the input. No authentication is required, and High Availability is enabled by default when two or more access points are connected; the bounded impact is a service interruption during the reload.
