Host file disclosure via external XML entities
Published May 4, 2022 · Updated Nov 6, 2024
XXE injection in Cisco Enterprise NFVIS before 4.7.1 allows remote attackers to read host files through a crafted VM backup import. The vmImportAction command passes dep.xml from a .vmbkp archive to EncsManager with external-entity resolution enabled, embedding referenced host-file contents in VM configuration data. Exploitation requires an administrator to import the crafted archive, while authenticated users in a configured VM can access the disclosed data.
