Parameter injection in the IOx hosting environment in Cisco IOS allows remote authenticated users to execute code as root through the IOx API. The API incompletely sanitizes parameters in an IOx package descriptor when an application is built and deployed, allowing crafted values to reach host-side execution. Valid high-privilege credentials, enabled IOx hosting, and permission to build and deploy an application are required; successful exploitation grants root execution on the device.
