CVE-2022-20704Network attack vector

Traffic alteration via improper server-certificate validation

Published Feb 10, 2022 · Updated Nov 6, 2024

Improper certificate validation in Cisco Small Business RV router firmware allows man-in-the-middle attackers to alter software-update traffic. The software upgrade module accepts a forged TLS server certificate while connecting to cloudsso.cisco.com or api.cisco.com, allowing an impersonated server to supply arbitrary software images. Exploitation requires interception of the router's outbound update connection; code execution additionally requires an administrator-triggered firmware update and the separate image-verification flaw.
