Controller crash and reload via crafted mDNS query
Published Apr 15, 2022 · Updated Nov 6, 2024
Denial of service in Cisco IOS XE Wireless Controller Software allows remote attackers to crash and reload controllers via crafted mDNS queries. The CAPWAP processing path inadequately validates incoming packets that encapsulate mDNS queries, causing the controller to crash and reload. The attacker must connect to a wireless network, and exposure requires the default-disabled mDNS gateway to be enabled globally and active on a WLAN.
