Authenticated DNS resolution via unchecked SMTP validation
Published Jan 12, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Missing authorization in Jenkins Mailer Plugin 391.ve4a_38c1b_cf4b_ and earlier allows remote authenticated users to trigger DNS lookups. The doCheckSmtpServer form-validation method passes its untrusted value to InetAddress.getByName without checking Overall/Administer permission. Overall/Read access is sufficient to make the controller resolver query an attacker-specified hostname, exposing only a DNS interaction.
