CVE-2022-2061Public exploit

Memory disclosure via unchecked LZW code

Published Jun 13, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Out-of-bounds access in Chafa before 1.12.0 allows local users to read unintended memory by processing a crafted GIF file. The bundled libnsgif lzw_decode function accepts an LZW code at or above the 12-bit table limit and accesses the decoder table without a bounds check. The command-line image loader must process the malicious file, and the documented consequence is memory disclosure with no reported data modification.
