Local escalation via camera driver use after free
Published Dec 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 18, 2025
Use-after-free in the Pixel camera driver in Google Android kernel allows local users to gain system privileges without user interaction. The driver can access a camera object after it has been freed because of a logic error in its lifetime handling. Exploitation requires local access with high privileges; successful exploitation elevates execution to the System context and can affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
