Local privilege escalation via UFDT bounds check
Published Dec 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 21, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in Android kernel libufdt allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges without interaction. The _ufdt_output_strtab_to_fdt function in ufdt_convert.c applies an incorrect bounds check while writing the flattened device-tree string table. Exploitation requires local access and existing System execution privileges; successful memory corruption elevates privileges on an affected Pixel device.
