Local privilege escalation via racing layer traversals
Published Dec 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 18, 2025
Use-after-free in SurfaceFlinger on Android 13 allows local users to execute arbitrary code and elevate privileges through concurrent dumpsys calls. SurfaceFlinger::doDump traverses a shared SortedVector off the main thread while another traversal can copy its backing storage, invalidating iterators. A local user must race diagnostic requests; successful exploitation runs code in the SurfaceFlinger context without user interaction.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
