Remote privilege escalation via MP4 integer overflow
Published Mar 24, 2023 · Updated Feb 28, 2025
Integer overflow in Android 13's MPEG4Extractor allows remote attackers to escalate privileges through crafted MPEG-4 media. parseTrackFragmentRun() reads an unsigned value into a signed integer without an overflow check, leading to an out-of-bounds read. Exploitation requires no authentication, additional execution privileges, or user interaction and reaches the privileges of the affected media-parsing context.
