CVE-2022-20528

Local memory disclosure via unchecked HEVC index

Published Dec 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 18, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in Android 13 Media Framework allows local users to disclose memory through a crafted HEVC parameter index. The findParam function in HevcUtils.cpp indexes a parameter vector without first checking that the requested position is within bounds. Low-privileged local access is required, but no user interaction is needed; exposure is limited to adjacent process memory, with no documented write or service interruption.
