Local privilege escalation via malformed grantor mapping
Published Dec 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 21, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in Android 13 System allows local users with System execution privileges to escalate privileges without user interaction. MessageQueueBase::mapGrantorDescr uses unvalidated grantor fdIndex and extent values when selecting a native-handle file descriptor and calculating the shared-memory mapping length. A local user already executing with System privileges can supply a malformed grantor descriptor, causing memory corruption that enables higher-privilege execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
