Local information disclosure via stale DexFile cache
Published Dec 13, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Use-after-free in Android Runtime in Android 13 allows local users to disclose process information through a stale DexFile cache. When DexFile_closeDexFile frees a DexFile during garbage collection, dex_caches_ retains its address, and GetResolvedMethod can later dereference the stale entry. A low-privileged local process can trigger the flaw without user interaction; the documented consequence is information disclosure only.
