CVE-2022-20496

Local information disclosure via setDataSource use-after-free

Published Dec 13, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025

Use-after-free in Google Android 12, 12L, and 13 Media Framework allows local users to disclose information without user interaction. The setDataSource function in initMediaExtractor.cpp accesses an object after its memory has been freed, exposing data from process memory. A local user needs no additional execution privileges, and the bounded impact is information disclosure rather than code execution.
