Local privilege escalation via unchecked task reparenting
Published Dec 13, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Task hijacking in Android 11, 12, 12L, and 13 allows local users to spoof interfaces or spy on activity through a malicious app. ResetTargetTaskHelper reparented an activity when allowTaskReparenting was set without also requiring its affinity to match the target task. Exploitation requires a locally installed malicious app but needs no user interaction or additional execution privileges.
