Local privilege escalation via unchecked NFC HAL write
Published Nov 8, 2022 · Updated May 1, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in Android 10 through 13 allows local users to escalate privileges through the NXP NFC hardware abstraction layer. phNxpNciHal_write_unlocked in phNxpNciHal.cc performs an NFC write without checking the supplied length before writing past the destination buffer. A local low-privileged user can exploit the flaw without user interaction to gain higher privileges on the device.
