Administrator code execution via unchecked ZIP source
Published Aug 8, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in wpWax Directorist before 7.2.3 allows remote authenticated users with administrator access to execute PHP code. The atbdp_download_file AJAX action accepts an attacker-controlled download_item[download_link] URL, fetches its ZIP without restricting the source domain, and extracts executable contents into a web-accessible plugin directory. Administrator privileges and a multisite policy that restricts plugin installation are required; successful exploitation writes and runs server-side PHP.
