Local privilege escalation via pass-through overlay touches
Published Jun 28, 2023 · Updated Dec 4, 2024
Privilege escalation in Android 13 allows local users to bypass interaction requirements through a crafted tapjacking overlay. SurfaceFlinger's Layer::hasInputInfo excludes window handles marked NO_INPUT_CHANNEL, causing InputDispatcher to treat container surfaces as invisible and pass touches to an underlying activity. A low-privileged local app can exploit the overlay without further user interaction to obtain elevated privileges on the device.
