Local privilege escalation via signed offset check
Published Oct 11, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Android 10 through 13 allows local users with System execution privileges to escalate privileges without interaction. In libfdt/fdt.c, fdt_offset_ptr used a signed offset in unsigned address arithmetic without first rejecting negative values, allowing fdt_next_tag to read beyond the structure block. Exploitation requires System execution privileges and attacker-controlled device-tree data; successful exploitation elevates local code without user interaction.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
