CVE-2022-20392

Local privilege escalation via duplicate permission declarations

Published Sep 13, 2022 · Updated Jun 5, 2025

Improper input validation in Android Framework 10 through 12L allows local users to gain dangerous permissions during app installation. The package parser keyed permissions by name and accepted duplicate declarations with different protection levels or groups, allowing later security attributes to replace earlier ones. A locally supplied malicious app triggers the flaw during installation or upgrade without user interaction, resulting in privilege escalation on the device.
